过年前要做什么？

新年常考单词
1、农历：这个词对现在的孩子们来说已经比较陌生了，他们现在过生日一般都是公历生日。随着中国城市化的逐步加快，农历的意思好像不太好理解了。英语中农历叫做“lunar calendar”，其中“lunar”表示“月亮的”，更能揭示农历的由来，也就是“取月相的变化周期为月的长度”的历法。
2、祭灶和扫房：农历的腊月二十三或者二十四被称为小年，这一天人们会祭灶和扫房。祭灶的英文表达是“offer sacrifices to Kitchen God”，很多孩子不知道什么是祭灶，来看看英文的翻译吧，多么直白，“祭”就是“offer sacrifices（祭祀）”、“灶”就是“Kitchen God（灶王）”；扫房是“spring cleaning”，为了跟普通的打扫房间区分，专门加上了“spring”。
扫房是为了去除晦气，英语中叫做“get rid of the ill-fortune”。
3、办年货：办年货其实就是购物，我们知道购物是do some shopping，所以办年货就顺其自然地成为了“do Spring Festival shopping”。
4、贴春联：先来看看对联的英文吧，couplet，这个词很有意思。可以认为它是“couple加上后缀-let”组成的，其中“couple”是夫妻或一对，“-let”后缀表示“小”，直接组合后可以看作是“小小的对子，小夫妻”，想想对联确实都成对出现，有些小夫妻的赶脚呢：）贴春联，就叫做paste spring couplets了，其中的paste还表示“浆糊”的意思，把贴春联用的粘合剂都说出来了，真是神级表达啊！
5、燃爆竹：爆竹的英语是“firecracker”，这个单词挺有讲究的。先看crack，它能表示“爆裂”的意思，cracker就是“爆裂的东西”了，爆竹需要用火点燃，就成了“firecracker”了。燃爆竹就是light the firecrackers。
6、守岁：守岁是在除夕夜熬夜迎接新年的到来。除夕夜的英语是“New Year's Eve”，哈哈，这个有些直接模范“Christmas Eve（圣诞前夜）”。守夜就是“staying-up”，哎，翻译成英文后马上感觉low了很多，文化底蕴都少了，谁让咱们有五千年的文明呢：）
7、拜年：大年初一终于来了，我们会给亲戚朋友拜年，送上新年祝福。拜年是“pay New Year's call”；同时，我们还会送上新年祝福，比如“I wish you prosperity（恭喜发财）”、“May all your wishes come true（心想事成）”、“Everything goes well（吉祥如意）”等等。当然了，如果是小孩子的话，还可以拿到红包“red packet”，里面有相当丰厚的压岁钱“lucky money”哦！

The spring Festival

The Spring Festival is the most important festival in China. It is on January 1st according to the Chinese lunar calendar(中国的农历). It’s China’s New Year’s Day. So usually a month before the festival people begin to buy food clothes and decorations(装饰) for houses.
About a week before the festival housewives are busy preparing the new year dinner. And they will do a lot of washing and cleaning in the houses. People who are far away on business are hurrying to return home for the new year’s family reunion（团聚）.
On New Year Eve each family will gather tighter eating talking and watching TV for almost the whole night. And there will be some interesting programmes on TV. The children are the happiest of all because they can get presents from parents or grandparents.
On Lunar New Year’s Day after getting up people will eat dumplings. When they meet their neighbours or friends they’ll say: “Happy New Year!”
