-Did you receive my application?你收到我的申请了吗?
-Yes. It arrived just under the wire.收到了，刚好赶在截止日期前收到。

wire原指“赛马比赛的终点线”，所以under the wire的字面意思是“在终点线处”，引申为“在最后期限前”。它和meet a deadline含义相似。
