Academic Plagiarism

Nowadays, the problem of academic plagiarism becomes more and more serious. In order to earn academic titles, some teachers plagiarize others' academic papers; in order to graduate smoothly, some college students plagiarize others' graduation papers. Everything has its reasons; academic plagiarism is no exception.

First, college authorities put too much emphasis on papers while conferring academic titles and graduating students. Second, modern technology makes it unprecedentedly easy to get information and materials. Some plagiarists who are morally corrupt can't resist the temptation and decide to take risks. Third, the system of censorship and penalty are far from being strict, encouraging plagiarism to some extent.

Plagiarism causes many bad results. On the one hand, plagiarism infringes original writers' right and it is unfair for teachers and students who don't plagiarize. On the other hand, plagiarism may spread negative thoughts which in the end will ruin colleges' fame. Therefore, I suggest college authorities should not regard papers as the only criterion for evaluating teachers and students. Besides, much stricter system of censorship and penalty should be applied.

Put your phone away

As techno1ogy develops fast, mobile phone is becoming a necessity for most people. Obviously, it is convenient for people to contact others, and thanks to it, we can be hardly absent from any important meetings，great deals or admirable opportunities。

However, sometimes the mobile phone also brings embarrassment to us. We can notice that someone press his mobile phone to his ear and shout loudly in public, even there are many people around him. What’s more, on some formal occasions the mobi1e phone rings continuous1y, and it interrupts people around, as a consequence, people can’t concentrate on what they are doing because of the continuous ringing. And we often focus on our phones while someone others are talking to us. It is impolite.

Post-holiday Syndrome Among Students

With the gloomy prospect of returning toschool,many students could suffer from post-holiday syndrome,which refers to a general feelingof depression before returning to campus life,which is caused by irregular lifestyles duringthe holiday.Symptoms include fatigue, lack of appetite and concentration,irritability and afeeling of helplessness.

Various reasons can account for it.But most important of all,a large number of studentstend to overindulge themselves in eating, merrymaking and playing around during the holidays,which makes it difficult to adjust to their routine study schedule and life pace on the campus.

My suggestions to deal with this syndrome are as follows.First，exercising and sticking toa normal schedule over the holidays will make a difference and nip post-holiday syndrome inthe bud. Besides,it pays to return a few days earlier before the semester starts.The earlyreturn seems to have kept the holiday blues at bay.

Selfish and Greedy

There is no doubt that some people are selfish and greedy. For example,some merchants sell their fake commodities at the market place for more profit. They are rich and want to be richer. There are also government officials who sell people's trust. Senior officials who take bribes by selling the power in their hands are not a few. Those people believe in the precept "Everyone for himself and the devil take the hind most."

However, the majority of people are neither selfish nor greedy. They contribute much and ask for little. Countless examples can be found around us, the PLA soldiers who sacrificed themselves for saving people's lives in fighting the disastrous floods and the warriors in white who risked their lives to save SARS victims being two of the most typical contrast to the selfish and corrupt official they are heroes, who set up glorious images for us.

The idea that nowadays people are selfish and greedy is probably attributed to the influence of the mass media which tend to over exaggerate the negative aspects of life. Many newspapers, particularly many local evening papers, and TV films play up nastiness by reporting and showing too much about violence and sex. A lot of books, too, portray selfishness and greed to seek sensational effect and economic profit. I wonder whether they are selfish and greedy, too?
